| Our poured wall basements provide a sturdy concrete structure. With solid construction they withstand greater pressure, and they are joint free which means reduced water infiltration, mold, and insects inside the home. |
| POURED VS BLOCK FOUNDATIONS Poured walls are more stronger, drier, more durable and can be constructed much more quickly than a block foundation. With a poured wall, rebar is used in both footings and walls to insure proper resistance to soil pressure and to control concrete shrinkage. Block walls are hollow, not solid, and may require a concrete pour to add strength or code compliance because they are more prone to bowing and structural damage. Poured walls are joint-free, high density construction which reduces water problems while blocks have joints and seams which allow water infiltration, drafts, mold, and insects inside the home. Poured walls can adapt to any foundation design, the forms used allow for any last minute changes. Block foundations would have to be tore down and rebuilt which would be very costly. Not to mention poured concrete walls increase the value of the home while increasing the speed and efficiency of the construction process. Block foundations take longer to erect, therefore increasing labor costs for the contractor which increases the project cost and the overall construction time. A survey conducted by the Portland Cement Association, a national association of cement producers and suppliers who support both the hollow core masonry and ready mixed concrete industries: "Poured concrete foundation walls dominate the national market, with 72% of new homes with full basements choosing poured concrete foundation wall systems.... Concrete block holds 25% of this national market." |
